Yoga with Evanna
About My Practice
I was introduced to yoga as a child by my mum's Sivananda book (Beginner's Guide to Yoga). I was fascinated by the lady in the yellow leotard on the cover - it was the '70s. In my early 20s Madonna's power yoga fad swept the planet, and I practised without any consciousness, purely for a workout. After having my second child I went to Gill Gibbens (Yoga with Gill in the Borders), where I enjoyed some time and space, and started to become aware of the deeper experience of yoga practice. Life took over again, and yoga fell by the wayside. I was drawn back to yoga by gut instinct in late 2012, and was around the same time as I read an autobiography by one of my favourite musicians. This book described how TM had changed their life, and led me to learn Transcendental Meditation. This amazing, life changing practice gave me clarity and I followed my instinct that led me onto the Yoga Scotland 60 hour foundation course. This gave me a super grounding in Hatha yoga. I was then accepted on to the 500 hour teacher training course. I began teaching in the second year of my course (March 2015). The core of my practice is meditation; through practising TM I have become aware of the unbound unified field of consciousness where the best outcomes occur naturally, effortlessly, and with a steady comfortable ease. My own practice and teaching is approached from a 'beginner's mind'. I am currently in the process of applying for the ANSU School of Sound and Tribal healing Arts diploma course, so excited, watch this space!
Inhale. Exhale. Repeat.
Get to know yourself a wee bit more through yoga. Be the subject and the observer. Notice without judgement. Connect, breathe, stretch, relax, BE.
Classes are suitable for every body, all levels of experience.
Classes are a balance of Hatha yoga practices - the eight-angled approach. Asana is generally a grounding vinyasa (flow) practice inspired by traditional Surya Namaskar (salute to the sun). We play around with this wonderful sequence to suit each individual class member, adapting each posture to suit everyone individually. A balance of simple pranayama practices (breath work), asana (postures), philosophy, chanting, relaxation and meditation combine to help develop a solid home practice from within a guided session.
If it's a small group session you're after then just get in touch. I will personalise your practice to suit the needs of the group. Whether it's a one off session or a beginners block to those with experience who would like to try something different then we can meet up and work out the perfect session for you. Prices are based on the size of the group and what you can afford. Everything is flexible,
Traditionally Yoga was shared between the Teacher and their student. While classes are a great way to connect with your 'tribe' and share experiences a regular home practice allows you the time and space (physically and metaphorically) to shape your own evolution. We will tune into what you need right now from a practice and develop this over the days, weeks and month ahead. As with classes and small groups the cost is dependant on what you can afford. Guideline suggested contribution - £45 for up to 2 hours guidance and your own unique practice plan.
